Help with sleep disorders

Sleep better with ayurvedic routines

Sometimes it's just darned. You’ve probably experienced this already. You go to bed tired, close your eyes, and want to let your mind wander into the land of dreams. But then your mind brushes a particular thought and holds on to it so tightly that you can't find any peace or rest. Nothing helps. No breathing exercise, no counting sheep, and the moment the alarm clock rings moves closer and closer.

You can prevent such nights and problems with falling asleep. In the teaching of the Ayurveda, a Dosha disorder is believed to be responsible for these issues. The Doshas, that are Vata, Pitta, and Kapha, are responsible for all physical activities and must be kept in balance. Imbalance can lead to problems falling asleep and sleeping through the night.

The daytimes of the Doshas

Each Dosha is active during two time periods of the day. Kapha is active from 6 am to 10 am. Get up as early as possible, best before or at 6 am and use this phase to its full extent with wholesome routines and a light breakfast.

During the Pitta phase, which lasts from 10 am to 2 pm, you can tackle more challenging topics that require patience and concentration. Also, treat yourself a healthy lunch. During the following Vata time from 2 pm to 6 pm, plan further activities. Work and sport should now be on your schedule. The next Kapha time, which lasts from 6 pm to 10 pm, should begin with a light dinner. Relaxing activities let the body gradually come to rest. At the end of the Kapha phase, that is at 10 pm, you should go to bed. From an Ayurvedic point of view, the most essential regeneration phase of the day now begins.

During the Pitta time from 10 pm to 2 am, your human cells and the small grey cells in your brain are cleansed. Afterward, in the Vata phase from 2 am to 6 am, all the unnecessary junk is removed, and space is created for the new energy that has been brought in. These activities, both the cleansing and the removal, can only be performed when the organism is not still busy digesting. Therefore, an early, light last meal is crucial.

Difficulties falling asleep, sleeping through, and waking up early

According to the teachings of Ayurveda, anyone who suffers from problems falling asleep has a disorder in the Kapha Dosha. Are you the unhurried or comfortable type, who would rather do things tomorrow than today? Challenge your body and mind more during the day so that they long for rest in the evening.

Problems with sleeping through the night usually result from an imbalance in the Pitta Dosha. You have too much fire, demand too much from yourself and others, hardly allow yourself a break, and often react irritably. You can retrieve your balance through moderation and active relaxation.

Waking up too early is an indication of a disturbance in the Vata Dosha. You tend to worry, are nervous, easily distracted, often forget meals, and have an irregular daily routine. The antidote is obvious: You need more regularity in life.
